Lyn A. Levy

Lyn A. Levy, of East Freetown, died October 6, 2026, at Hathaway Manor, in New Bedford, Mass. She was 80 years old.

Lyn was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Milton L. Levy and Sarah Ruth Jurist Levy, and lived in E. Freetown, MA, for decades. She is survived by her sisters, Deborah Jurist, and Abigail Jurist Levy, and cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Lyn had many passions throughout her life but three were her constant north stars: her garden, her dogs, and helping those who had been imprisoned, locked out of opportunities, and often abandoned by society.

Over the many years that Lyn tended her garden, she grew it into a sanctuary of beauty, humor, love, and memory. Visitors can feel the best of Lyn among its trees, paths, and plants. Even as her ability to tend to it declined, her dedicated early planning has kept its character. Her dogs - collies and shelties - were her true and constant companions. She was devoted to their care and delighted in their personalities. Lyn shared her dogs with her people, and they, in turn, rewarded Lyn and her circle with their steadfast joy.

Lyn founded SPAN, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals during their reentry into the community after incarceration in Massachusetts' prisons. Over the course of its 40+ years SPAN helped hundreds and hundreds of people establish new lives for themselves.

There will be a private gathering for family and friends. Lyn asked those wishing to remember her to "please find an organization either owned and/or run by formerly incarcerated people that benefits prisoners and people who have been incarcerated, or an organization that benefits prisoners and animals." These two organizations are examples that would please Lyn: NEADS Service Dogs' Prison PUP Program https://neads.org/ppp-an-update/ and Second Chance Animal Services' Project Good Dog https://www.secondchanceanimals.org/project-good-dog/.
