Matthew David Longval, 69, of Acushnet, died July 25, 2026, after an extended illness. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on April 14, 1957, he was the son of the late Louis "Pete" Longval and Gertrude (Dargon) Longval. Raised in Dracut, Massachusetts, David attended Saint Michael's School in Lowell and graduated from Dracut High School in 1975. In 1979, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Boston State College. David worked his entire career at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and was most recently a Medical Laboratory Scientist until his retirement due to his illness, which he bravely fought for several years.
For several decades, David lived along the shoreline in Winthrop, Massachusetts, where he became an accomplished sailor aboard his boat, Woffus, and was a member of the Winthrop Yacht Club. When David retried, he relocated to southeastern Massachusetts. David immersed himself in his new community by making many new friends.
He was always health conscious and had a variety of interests. He loved spending time at the gym, hiking, swimming, skiing, mountain biking, and long distance biking around the country. David also built many lifelong friendships through his shared interests in music, dancing, politics, world affairs, and travel.
David's love for family and his deep interest in his French and Irish heritage was always close to his heart. Through his studies at the New England Historic Genealogical Society, he developed a passion for tracing and documenting his ancestry. He traveled extensively through the Eastern Townships and Mauricie regions of Quebec, tracing the Longval family's migration from France. While researching his maternal heritage in Ireland, David became an Irish citizen.
David is survived by his brother, Mark Longval of Ossipee, New Hampshire; two sisters, Meryl Longval and her wife, Dale Kindregan, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and Jane Zagorites of Leesburg, Virginia; and his nieces and nephews, Christina Myerski (Dave), Matthew Morrisette, Justin Longval (Tara), Alexa Zagorites Rocca (Seth), and Peter Zagorites (Jen), and the next generation of grand nieces and nephews were a treasure to him.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise West, and his brother-in-law, Harry Zagorites.
