Manuel Joao Almeida Sousa, 54, of New Bedford, affectionally known as "Billois", passed away Thursday September 4, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Maria C. (Semedo) Sousa.

Born in Sao Vicente, Cape Verde, the son of the late Joao Jose Sousa and Ludovina Almeida, he resided in New Bedford for the past 25 years.

Manuel was formerly employed as a carpenter for Sentry Construction in Boston. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union.

Billois' life was centered around soccer. He was a fan of FC Porto and was a member of Soccer Team A.B.C. A very politically-driven individual, he enjoyed discussing and debating politics with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing balizinha.

He is survived by his wife Maria; his children, Klisman Sousa, Bill Sousa, Billois Sousa, and Rosiane Sousa; his siblings. Maria Sousa and Jose Sousa; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 9th at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8 PM.
