Manuel S. Arruda, Jr., 85, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Manuel S. and Marian (Medeiros) Arruda, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Manny and Diane were married on August 11, 1962, and shared 65 years together. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. A family man who loved unconditionally. He enjoyed vacations to New Hampshire, Lake George, Disney, and Las Vegas. He enjoyed going out to breakfast every Sunday after church. He looked forward to having yard sales and cookouts on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Manny liked gardening, working on the house, and building decks and patios. He liked watching sports and walking around Buttonwood park. He was known to his friends as "Manny" and to his family as "Juney".
Manny served proudly in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing for 30 years, and the City of New Bedford Pride Team for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Arruda; his children, Michael James Arruda, and Matthew Mark Arruda and his wife Charlene Rocha Arruda; his grandchildren, Lucas Matthew Arruda and Jonathan Michael Arruda; his sister Geraldine DeMello; his sister-in-law Joyce Arruda; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his siblings Alice Wagner, Lilian Perry, Leonora Costa, Dorothy Harkins, David Arruda, and Eileen Caton.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, May 16th at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, May 15th from 4-8 PM.
