Manuel C. "Buddy" Costa, 84, of Mattapoisett died Saturday October 1, 2011 at Alden Court Nursing Home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Alice (Robinson) Costa.

Born in Mattapoisett, the son of the late Joseph M. and Mary J. (Secia) Costa, he lived in Marion for most of his life before returning to Mattapoisett three years ago.

Mr. Costa was formerly employed by the Marion Department of Public Works until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Costa of Mattapoisett and Patricia Ferguson and her husband Neil of New Bedford; a brother, Anthony Costa of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Gena and Terrell Costa; and four great-grandchildren, Andre, Daquan, Tyzhaya, and Andre.

He was the brother of the late Albert, Edward, Joseph, and Walter Costa.
