Manuel S. Gomes, 73, of Boston, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, son of the late Francisco and Maria (Soares) Gomes, he lived in Boston most of his life.

Manny enjoyed fishing, long walks with his dog Luca, watching all New England sports teams, especially the Patriots and Celtics, and cooking dishes of all kinds. Manny was also very close to his family. Spending time with his granddaughter Noelle was the highlight of his life, especially working on their garden together every spring. He was a longtime member of The Laborers' Union Local 22, working as a Lead Laborer / Pipe-layer with The Dow Company and a Foreman for Jay Cashman, Inc. One of his proudest career accomplishments was working on The Big Dig / Central Artery Tunnel Project from start to finish.

Manny proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years, bravely fighting in Vietnam and earning The Rifleman Marksmanship Badge.

Devoted husband of Naomi J. (Lomba) Gomes; loving father of Adrianna Gomes; and adored Papa of Noelle Sage. Also survived by his siblings, Suzette Lobo and husband John, Domingos Gomes and wife Debra, Maria Gomes, Matilda Gomes, and John Gomes; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, and his brother José Gomes, with whom he was extremely close.

Manny will always be remembered as a warm, caring, loving, dedicated, and hardworking man, who always made everyone feel welcome.

His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 10th, at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 9th, from 4-8 PM.
