Manuel Silva, 90 of New Bedford died August 9, 2011 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Maria J. (Andrade) Silva.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Joaquim P. and Zulmira (Afonseca) Silva, he lived in New Bedford for the last 35 years.
Mr. Silva was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed in the merchant marines for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Silva enjoyed music.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Jose Silva of Lincoln, RI, Ben Silva of New Bedford and Timothy Silva of Los Angeles, CA; 6 daughters, Lidia Stepp of San Antonio, TX, Laurinda Coleman of Middletown, NJ, Linda Fermino of New Bedford, Zulmira Andrade of Providence, RI, Suzanne Titter of Wheatland, CA and Peggy Silva of Sacramento, CA; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Silva of New Bedford; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Boaventura Silva.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, August 12th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, August 11th from 4-8 PM.
