Marguerite Burchell

Marguerite Burchell, 93, of Chatham, passed away peacefully at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Born in Haverhill, MA, daughter of the late William and Helen (Sullivan) Burchell, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.

Marguerite worked as an English teacher in the New Bedford High School for many years. She was a member of the Eire Society of Boston, and a supporter of several historical and nonprofit organizations, including Save the Bells, the New Bedford Historical Association, the Old Colony Historical Society of Taunton, the Friends of Buttonwood Park, and the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

Survivors include her brother Edward Burchell and his wife Eileen of Mount Vernon, NY; her sister Mary Burchell-Givens of Alamo, CA; her nieces and nephews, Thomas, Noreen, Angela, Meaghan, and Brendan.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 11 AM in Our Lady of Victory Parish, 230 S Main Street, Centerville, MA 02632. Burial will be private. Please meet directly at church.
