Marguerite (Kean) Dunham, 94, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025. She was the wife of the late Arthur A. Dunham.
Born in West Warwick, daughter of the late Nicholas Kean and Annie (Cocker) Wilkinson, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
Marguerite was the first female Sergeant in the New Bedford Police Department. She was also the first female graduate of the Command Training Program from the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management in 1970. She served proudly in the U. S. Army Women's Army Corps during the Korean War. She was a prolific reader and enjoyed cooking and volunteering for St. Luke's Hospice.
Survivors include her children, Holly Amalfitano of Providence, Edith Vaught of Fairhaven, Arthur Macey of New Bedford and David Macey of Pompton Lakes, NJ; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her first husband Royal Macey; her son James Macey and her siblings, Grace Maguire, Francis Kean and William Kean.
Her visitation will be held Saturday, January 25th from 8:30-10:00 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Lawrence Church and burial in Rural Cemetery.
