Maria J. (Lopes) Facadas, 81, of New Bedford died Wednesday January 8, 2014 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Francisco Facadas.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Jose and Paulina Oliveira Vasconcelos Lopes, she lived in Roxbury, before moving to New Bedford to live with family in 1978 after the death of her husband.

She is survived by her siblings, Elce V. Andrade and Carlos V. Lopes, both of New Bedford, and Augusto V. Lopes of Sao Vincente, Cape Verde; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Margarida V. Lopes, Hermes V. Lopes, Jose V. Lopes, and Joao V. Lopes.

A private family burial service was held on Saturday morning at New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan. Arrangements were by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
