Maria DosReis Lopes, 98. of New Bedford passed away Wednesday September 10, 2025 at Sacred Heart Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joao Virgilio Lopes.

Born in Praia, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Joao Francisco DosReis and Joana Maria Gomes, she lived in Senegal before moving to New Bedford in 1990.

She is survived by her children, Zelinda Cardoso and Virgilio Lopes; four grandchildren, Jean Serra, Christie Serra, Angelina Serra Pina, and Danielle Serra; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was the grandmother of the late Virna Serra.

Her visitation will be held on Friday September 19th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
