Maria S. Barros

Maria S. (Soares) Barros, 90, of New Bedford died Sunday, March 8, 2026 at home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Antonio Barros.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Bartholomeu and Francisca Soares, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

Maria was a devout Christian who loved Jesus, spreading the Word and Love of God. She was a member of the Freedom in Christ Ministry, with her faith being an important part of her life.

She was formerly employed at Cornell Dubilier for many years until her retirement.

Maria loved Gospel music, attending Church services, watching TV, knitting, sewing, cooking, baking, her bird Joey, and time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by 2 sons, Jose Ribeiro and his wife Dee, and Amancio Ribeiro; 7 grandchildren, Joe, Jessica, Jay, AJ, Macy, Michael, and Ayla; and 6 great-grandchildren, Ana, Nadia, Mariana, Ava, Maya, and KJ.

Her Funeral Service will be Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10-11 AM, prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
