Maria Conceicao Vargas, 93, of New Bedford died Wednesday January 2, 2008 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness.

Born in Faial, Azores, the daughter of the late Luisa Oliveira and Francisco O. Vargas, she lived in New Bedford for the past 48 years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Maria G. Vargas of New Bedford; and six nieces and nephews, Louisa Hicks of New Bedford, Manuel G. Vargas of Fairhaven, Alda Vargas Roderiques of Westport, Lucia V. Williams of Dartmouth, Mario F. Vargas of Rochester, and Francisco J. Vargas of Danvers.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
