Mariana G. (Gilmete) Pires, 92, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Friday April 25, 2025. She was the wife of the late Joaquim A. Pires.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Joao and Alice (DosReis) Gilmete, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.

Mariana enjoyed gardening, cooking, and dancing. She was very strong in her faith and a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Mariana always took care of others and will be remembered as a kind soul.

Survivors include her children, John Pires and his wife Dianna of New Bedford, Maria DaLomba of Mashpee, Alcinda Pires of New Bedford, and Katherine Pires of Mashpee; her seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son Antonio Pires and siblings Maria Alves, Joaquim Gilmete, and "Mimi" Gilmete.

Mariana's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., followed by her burial in St. John's Cemetery. Her visiting hours will be Friday from 4-8 PM.
