Marie Ann McGonagle

Marie Ann (Francis) McGonagle, 68, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026. Born on March 21, 1957, Marie lived a life centered around love, family, and faith.

On February 17, 1978, she was married to Robert Francis McGonagle in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and proudly carried the name McGonagle. She later lived in Maine, where she and her husband raised four children together: Robert, Doris, James, and Kimberly.

After the passing of her husband, Marie welcomed another daughter, Donna Fonseca. Later in life, she met Robert Dwyer, with whom she shared twin daughters, Lisa Francis and Donna Francis. Together they raised their girls in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Robert Dwyer passed away on August 17, 2024.

In 2021, Marie was diagnosed with dementia. That same year, her beloved daughter, Lisa Francis, passed away on July 28, 2021, a loss that deeply impacted her heart and her family. Marie was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Francis; Robert Dwyer, the father of her twin daughters; and her brothers James Francis and John Francis.

Marie adored her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She loved her "grandbabies" more than anything in the world. She was known for baking the best desserts, filling her home with warmth and sweetness. Her favorite color was purple, her favorite flowers were lilacs, and she loved listening to Elvis Presley and her country music.

A devoted Christian, Marie carried her faith in her heart throughout her life. Her love, strength, and devotion to her family will never be forgotten. Though she is no longer physically with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

She is survived by her children: Robert, Doris, James, Kimberly, Donna Fonseca, and Donna (Francis) Cruz; her son-in-law Luis Cruz; and her cherished grandchildren, Karmah Cruz, Nina Cruz, Apollo Cruz, and Javian Dean Francis, the beloved son of her late daughter Lisa.
She is also survived by her siblings, all of New Bedford, Massachusetts: Dorothy Blanchard, Tina Francis, and Doris Baptiste.
