Obituary

Marilyn E. (Lynch) Rosa, 88, of New Bedford passed away Saturday May 4, 2024 after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Dudley E. and Marion (Cook) Lynch, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bristol Community College, where she was awarded an Associate's degree with honors.

Marilyn was formerly employed as a librarian at UMass Dartmouth for 20 years until her retirement.

Marilyn was dedicated to her community and was always helping those in need.  She was a director of the Marion Cook Lynch Missions for Christ Foundation. She was an active member of the Union Baptist Church, where she served as the choir director.

In her spare time, she enjoyed attending the painting classes at the Buttonwood Senior Center.

She is survived by her husband, John E. Rosa; and six children, John Rosa, David Rosa and his wife Shelly, Daniel Rosa and his wife Jane, Peter Rosa and his wife Renee, Paula Fontes, and Carilyn Duarte and her husband Joseph.  She was also blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was the mother-in-law of the late Zelda Rosa, who passed away on April 23rd, and Brian Fontes.

Her visitation will be held on Saturday May 11th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with her funeral service beginning at 7 PM during the visitation.  For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
