Obituary

Marion Rose Reid 74
Marion passed away on November 7, 2024 at home after a long, well fought battle with Multiple Myeloma. Marion was a lifelong resident of Dartmouth. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Furtado) Mello and the sister of the late George De Mello, Antone (Tony) Mello, John (Johnny) De Mello, Filbert (Phil) Mello, and Joseph (Joey) Mello. She is survived by her sister Roseann Sousa of Dartmouth. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

She was the wife of the late David R. Reid, with whom she spent 45 years building a family and a home. She loved being a mother to her two sons Eric Reid (Heather) of Pattersonville NY and Wayne Reid (Elise) of Wrentham MA and her efforts making sure they always had what they needed didn't go unnoticed.

She will be missed by her grandchildren Jackson, Addison, and Kenley Reid of Pattersonville NY and Myla and Damen Reid of Wrentham MA and will always be remembered as a grandma who liked to have fun. She was always baking something for friends and family. She was known to make quite a mess in the kitchen while baking and the kids thought it was the funniest thing in the world. She also had a habit of spoiling her grandkids when given the chance.

Marion started her career at the Cliftex Corporation in New Bedford MA. After taking 5 years away from work to spend time with her sons, and then a second short stint at Cliftex, Marion went on to have a lengthy second career at Lightolier in Fall River MA. She was known as the "Candy Lady" who always had a bowl of treats for those looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. Marion also spent a few years delivering meals to house-bound seniors at Meals on Wheels.

Marion was a devout Catholic and often went to Mass multiple times per week at either St. Julie's or St Mary's in Dartmouth, or St. Anthony's of Padua in New Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Marion Reid to support cancer research and patient care at: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via dana-farber.org/gift
