Marjorie C. Carrier

Marjorie C. (Chace) Carrier, 94, of East Freetown passed away Monday July 20, 2026 at the Oaks Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Romeo “Buck” Carrier.

Born in Freetown, the daughter of the late Azel and Edna (Demoranville) Chace, she lived in Freetown all of her life. She was a graduate of Dighton High School.

In her earlier years, Marjorie was employed as a waitress at various local restaurants, most notably at The Point in East Freetown. It was at The Point where she met the love of her life, “Buck,” whom she later married, enjoying 40 plus years together.

Marjorie spent the majority of her married life as a homemaker, but she wore many hats. Wife, Mom, GAM, Aunt, Sister and Friend. She was known to multiple generations as Aunt Marge or Auntie Marge and to a few special people, Mrs. Santa Claus.

Marjorie enjoyed cooking and baking and was always willing to share the fruits of her labors with the neighborhood, thus earning her the reputation as Pine Tree Bakery.

Throughout the years, she also cared for many individuals within the community as they got older ensuring their needs were met as they became unable to care for themselves in their homes. Marjorie‘s motto was “It’s not hard to be kind.” Her kindness, love and compassion were always evident in her daily interactions.

In her leisure time she enjoyed embroidery crocheting and knitting, especially baby afghans and sweater sets. Many individuals were the recipients of her handiwork especially if a new baby was expected within the household.

Marjorie loved spending time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, a love she shared with her husband. They shared many adventures together exploring and enjoying the Great Whites, sometimes in vehicles that probably should have never left the limits of Freetown, but nonetheless they survived and had some great stories to share.

Marjorie had a passion for life. She enjoyed every day to the fullest, maintaining her wit and charm right to the end, always with kindness, gentleness, and grace. To know her was to love her. She will always live on within our hearts as we try to live by her example.

She is survived by her son, Walter H. Carrier; her great-niece, Hannah, whom she lovingly referred to as her “granddaughter”; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Gertrude Chace, Ruth Chace, Eleanor Pittsley and her husband Ephraim, Mary Pittsley and her husband Kenneth, Phyllis Westgate and her husband George, Alice Westgate and her husband Daniel, and Harris Chace and his wife Eleanor.

Walter would like to extend his sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by The Oaks Nursing Home staff to Marjorie, especially the Pinewood Unit team and a very special angel.

Her visitation will be held on Friday July 24th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday July 25th at 9:30 AM at St. John Neumann Church, East Freetown, with her family receiving visitors at the church beginning at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Chace Cemetery.
