Mary Lourdes "Lourdy" (Rozario) Houtman, 94, of New Bedford died Sunday, April 7, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the love of her life, Albert O. Houtman, Jr., for 72 years.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Vincent and Mary (Miranda) Rozario, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a devout member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she served on the Parish Council, was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, was a past Holiday Bazaar Captain, was a past choir member, and participated in many religious retreats. She was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River for her faithful dedication to her Parish.
Lourdy was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1950. She was formerly employed as a supervisor at the Aerovox Corporation for over 40 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. She loved life and was grateful for each and every day.
Survivors include her husband, Albert; three children, Camille Raymond and her husband Ronald, Raymond Houtman and his wife Yvonne (Silva), and David Houtman and his wife Cathy (Johnson); three sisters, Maria Fernandes, Maria Lopes, and Rosa Delgado; seven grandchildren, Marques Houtman, Isaiah Houtman, Preston Raymond, David Raymond, Benjamin Battles, Stephanie Houtman Canery, and Cedric Houtman; and seven great-grandchildren, Julian Raymond, Christopher and Abigail Houtman, Mia, Kendrick, and Cade Canary, and August Houtman.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Lourdes (Houtman) Battles and her siblings, Anna Cardoza, Joan Grace, Julia Livramento, and Manuel "Sid" Rosario.
Her Funeral will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 AM.
