Mary Helen (Smiley) Lawton, 80, of New Bedford died July 1, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late George A. Lawton.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frederick G. and Mary Elizabeth (Thomas) Smiley, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Lawton was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
She was formerly employed as a store manager of Stride Rite until her retirement.
Mrs. Lawton was a member of Third Order of Secular Franciscan.
Survivors include her son, Gregory Lawton of New Bedford; a step-son, George Lawton and his wife Judy of Dartmouth; and 2 grandchildren.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 13th at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
