"Macy" Ducharme
January 3, 1944 – February 4, 2025
Mary Jane "Macy" (Healy) Ducharme, 81 years old, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Ducharme.
Mary lived the first 10 years of her life in Fairhaven, before moving to New Bedford. She graduated from Holy Family High School, class of 1961.
Her biggest joy in life was to spend time with her husband, family, and friends. She loved to travel and be near the ocean, and enjoyed reading and crocheting. She made many lap blankets, prayer shawls, walker bags, healing blankets and Baptismal shawls for many churches, nursing homes and various hospice groups. She enjoyed going to the Dartmouth Bible Church knitting group each Monday. Macy was a member of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart Women's Guild where she made many friends. Macy was also a life member of the National Poet Society and had poems published in two books: "Best Poems of the 90's" and "The Rainbow's End". She also loved football and followed the Patriots but most recently fell in love with Patrick Mahomes. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family. Macy was best known for her chowders and various soups.
Macy is survived by her sisters Dorothy Tweedie, and Kathleen Greely and her husband Wallace, all of New Bedford, Martha Monti and her husband Anthony of Holbrook, Marsha Rego and her husband Jerry of East Bridgewater, and her brother Thomas F. Healy IV and his wife Susan of Wareham, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many close, dear relatives and friends.
Macy was the loving daughter of the late Ann (Johnson) and Thomas F. Healy III, loving sister of the late Ann Cafferty and her late husband George, as well as the sister-in-law of the late Dennis Tweedie, Rolande and Henry Fredette, Emile and Betty Ducharme, and Albert and Mary Ducharme.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 11th at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, MA. Private burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday, February 10th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Lawrence Martyr Church Restoration Fund in care of Father Michael Racine at 121 Mt Pleasant St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
