Matthew J. "Marty" Monteiro, 64, of Brockton died April 15, 2015 at Tufts Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Willard and Mary (Lopes) Monteiro, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Brockton in 1994.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed spending time with his dog Chico, and doing karate.
Survivors include 3 brothers, Gerald Monteiro and Baron Monteiro, both of New Bedford and Joesph Monteiro of Fall River; 2 sisters, Donna Gaylor and Nadeen Jordan, both of New Bedford; a Godchild, Michelle Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Willard Monteiro, Stephen Monteiro and Cynthia Monteiro.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 21st at 12 Noon in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Monday, April 20th from 4-8 PM.
