Melvin Chase, 72, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 after a period of declining health.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Edith (Lawrence) Chase and Edward Chase, he was raised in Dartmouth and then lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Melvin was formerly employed at Crystal Ice.

He had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Lynchmen Motorcycle Club. A very outgoing and friendly person, he immediately connected with everyone he met. He made every encounter with him meaningful.

He is survived by his son, Corey Chase; his siblings, Manny Chase and his wife Barbara, Daniel "Dynamite" Chase, Debbie deMelo and her husband Manny, Judy Luiz, and Caroline Weeks; his sisters-in-law, Linda Chase, Rosie DeTerra, and Barbara Harris; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Kelly Chase; his siblings, Ernie Tavares, Michael Chase, and Robert Chase; his sister-in-law, Donna Chase; and his life partner, Valerie Piva.
