Nancy Ann (Victorino) Prefontaine, age 73, of Mattapoisett died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Nancy was born in New Bedford and grew up in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Jack Victorino and Lucille (Bouley) Victorino.
Nancy lived in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, in the home she shared with her beloved late husband, Charlie Prefontaine. Together they enjoyed a long and loving marriage filled with adventure, friendship, and a shared passion for sailing. One of their favorite traditions was participating in Figawi Weekend, where they enjoyed racing and spending time with friends on the water.
Nancy was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, Class of 1970. She worked for many years as a computer programmer at Lucent Technologies and later as a Research Scientist at Nye Lubricants in Fairhaven until her retirement.
An independent woman with a caring heart, Nancy cherished life's simple pleasures. She loved running, rowing, biking, and sailing. She was devoted to her cats and cared for them with tremendous love throughout her life. Nancy was also a loyal and incredible friend who treasured spending time with those closest to her. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting on the bench with her best friend Faith Ball watching the world go by, sharing stories, laughter, and friendship.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Jack M. Victorino and his wife, Justina; her nieces, Chelsi and Ashley; her stepchildren, Tim Prefontaine, Chris Prefontaine, and Nicole O'Leary; her beloved grandchildren; and her companion, Raymond Morin. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Prefontaine, and her stepson, Doug Prefontaine.
Nancy will be remembered for her independent spirit, her kindness, her love of animals, her devotion to family and friends, and the joy she found both on the water and in everyday moments. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation in honor of Nancy's life will be held at Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett on Thursday August 13, 2026 from 4-7 PM.
