Nelida "Lucy" Luzza

Nelida "Lucy" Luzza, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026 after a five‑year journey with dementia surrounded by the love of her beloved children and grandson.

Born on November 11, 1934 to humble beginnings in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she was the youngest of 9 children of Italian parents Silvestre Finocchiaro and Santa Maccarone. From those early years she carried with her a steadfast Catholic faith and an unwavering devotion to family, a devotion that would shape every chapter of her life.

Lucy shared a beautiful 65‑year love story with her husband, Marino "Mario" Luzza. Their journey began when Mario (the youngest of 12, born in Acquaro, Italy) moved to Buenos Aires and trained as a tailor and designer. He met Lucy, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. Together, they pursued the American dream, finally settling in Mattapoisett in 1978 where they raised their three children. Lucy worked as a skilled seamstress at Cliftex Corporation. Later, she and Mario fulfilled a shared dream by opening their own seamstress and tailoring shop, first Alterations by Lucy, and later It's Sew Easy, a beloved small business that served the Mattapoisett, Rochester, and Marion communities with care and craftsmanship for decades.

Nelida treasured life's simple joys. In her younger years she delighted in window shopping at the North Dartmouth Mall, afternoons at the Mattapoisett Beach, and time spent with her family. Proud of her Italian‑Argentinian heritage, she expressed her love through cooking. Her homemade Italian dishes: handmade pasta and meatballs, lasagna, and suppli and Argentinian favorites such as: empanadas, pastaflora, and milanesa became legendary among those who gathered at her table.

She is survived by her children: Vivian Glazier, Anthony Luzza, and Michelle Luzza and her beloved grandson, Marco Luzza. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews in Argentina and Italy, as well as extended family in the United States. She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, her son‑in‑law Lester Glazier, and her daughter‑in‑law Veronique Luzza.

Lucy leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, and quiet strength-one rooted in her deep Catholic faith and entrusted now to God's eternal care, continuing to live on in the hearts of all who cherished her. The love and care shown to Mom during this chapter of her life reminded us of the goodness that exists in people. Knowing she was surrounded by such kindness gave us peace and helped make her days brighter.

According to her wishes, a private funeral Mass and burial will take place.
