Peter Daniel Hansen was born in Rockville Centre, NY on September 7, 1930 to Peter Herbert and Elizabeth Rider Hansen. He was most currently residing at Atria Assisted Living in Fairhaven, Massachusetts with his wife, Bobbie, of 69 years. The first in his family to earn a college degree, Peter was awarded full-ride scholarships to the University of Rochester, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1952 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree in the same field in 1955. He went on to earn a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at MIT, in 1960.
It was at the University of Rochester that Peter met the love of his life, Mildred (Bobbie) Edwards, on a blind date arranged by friends. They were married on August 27, 1955.
Peter spent the majority of his career working in Research and Development for the Foxboro Company. Peter was widely respected at work for his mathematical expertise, and he was awarded several patents and published articles on his original research. He was honored as a Bristol Fellow at the Foxboro Company in 1988.
In his later years Peter enjoyed many years of travel, visits with grandchildren, and contented retirement with his wife. He passed peacefully on January 11, 2025 at the age of 94. He will be remembered for his many unique gifts and the kind twinkle in his blue eyes. He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie, daughters Lee Williamson of Marion, MA and Jacqueline Stanley of Bozeman, Montana, son-in -law Warren Williamson, granddaughter Kaylyn Williamson Bradley and her husband William Bradley, and granddaughters Tarra Williamson and Emily Stanley.
