Raymond C. Harris, Jr. died peacefully on May 8, 2026 at the age of 71 with his loving wife by his side. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, and cousin.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Huff-Harris; two daughters, Raechelle Sloan (David) and Desiree Harris; seven grandchildren, Deven and Brayden Sloan, Mashaud, Elias, Zion, Ezras, and Azalea Carter; five sisters, Fran Stubbs (Frank), Ramona Harris, Maria Grace, Dorothy James (Milford), and Rita Harris; and one brother, Clinton Harris (Beverly). He was also the son of the late: Raymond C. Harris, Sr. and Mary (Gomes) Harris; and brother of the late: Patricia Harris, Houston Beverly (Donna), Alice Shell (William), Charlotte Perry (John), Cynthia, and Yvonne Harris. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other extended family members.
Raymond was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for more than 25 years. He retired in 2020 from the Department of Transportation where he was a Project Manager working to improve the electronic tolling system.
He lived a colorful life traveling with his wife and attending Broadway shows and Shakespeare Festivals. He was a hat aficionado, scratch ticket enthusiast, cheesecake and white chocolate connoisseur, and a lovable curmudgeon. He especially liked spending time with family and supporting their accomplishments.
His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 11:00am - 1:00pm, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond's honor may be made to Angell Memorial Medical Center, 350 S Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130, https://www.mspca.org/tribute-memorial-giving/.
