Richard A. Bono

Richard "Ricky" Alan Bono, 72, of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday August 4, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.

Born on October 30, 1953, in New Bedford, Richard was immersed in the South Coast where spent his entire life. His roots in the community ran deep, and the friendships he built over a lifetime were among his greatest treasures. Whether through his work, his love of golf, or simply sharing stories with friends, Ricky had a way of making people feel welcome. He will be remembered for his generous heart, infectious spirit, kindness, and his quiet willingness to help others.

As the president and owner of State Road Cement Block Company, Ricky proudly ran the business alongside his brother Paul with integrity and dedication gaining the respect and admiration of all his loyal customers.

Known for embracing life to the fullest, Rick loved cars, motorcycles, and even his plane. Golf was one of his greatest passions. For over 50 years, he was a devoted member of the Country Club of New Bedford, where he could often be found enjoying countless rounds of golf ending at the 19th hole sharing drinks and laughs with friends who knew him by many nick names. Rick, Slick Rick, Chud, RB, Hollywood, Wood, Woody, and others.

Deeply proud of his Italian heritage, Ricky was an active member of the Italian Literary and Mutual Aid Society in New Bedford. His generosity extended beyond his own family through the establishment of a scholarship for children of Italian descent.

Above all, Ricky’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Anne Brogan, whose love and devotion were the foundation of their life together; his cherished children, Kyle Bono, Courtney Bono, Colin Bono, and Casey Bono; and his brothers, Paul Bono and Mark Bono.

Ricky lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, generosity, and enduring friendships. His smile, warm spirit, and genuine kindness touched countless lives. While his family mourns the loss of a devoted husband, father, brother they find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who loved him.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday August 12th at 11 AM at St. Anthony’s Church, Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Cushing Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday August 11th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
