Richard M. Garcia, 83, of New Bedford passed away Thursday June 25, 2026 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Martin) Garcia.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Irene (Souza) Garcia, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Richard was formerly employed by J&J Security and later by Frionor and American Seafoods until his retirement.
An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Rodbenders Fishing Club and the New Bedford Revolver and Rifle Club. He was a caring individual who would do anything to help his family and friends. He would often drive his relatives and friends to various appointments. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. His daily routine would not be complete without getting together with his friends at Dunkin on Dartmouth Street.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his son, Gary J. Garcia and his wife Kristen; his siblings, Bruce Garcia, Shirley Fernandes, and Sandra Tavares and her husband Manuel; his grandchildren, Derek DiMarzio, Tonie Garcia, Aubrey DiMarzio, Cameron Garcia, Candace Garcia, and Evan Garcia; his great-granddaughter, Millie DiMarzio; his brother-in-law, Jan Martin and his wife Jean; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Donald Leno Garcia, Nancy Paiva, and Gail Duarte, and brother-in-law of the late Alfred F. Martin.
His funeral will be held on Thursday July 2nd at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, South Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will be in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting ours will be on Wednesday July 1st from 4-7 PM.
