Richard A. Woodis, 70, of Acushnet died at home Monday, February 18, 2019 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Brenda J. (Alves) Woodis.

Born in Acushnet, son of the late Wallace Garfield Woodis, Sr. and Gertrude Nora (Pitsley) Woodis, he lived in Dartmouth and Acushnet for most of his life.

Richard held various jobs throughout his life and was most recently employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at The Oaks.

He enjoyed gardening, carpentry and spending time with his family, especially his wife who was his best friend.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda; three children, Wendora Woodis, Wallace Woodis and his wife Elizabeth, and Angela Fernandes; two brothers, Louie and Roger Woodis; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two step-children, Mindy and Dana Furtado; and two brothers, Donald and Wallace Woodis, Jr.

The family would like to thank Richard's hospice nurse, Cindy Aguiar and the staff at Hudner Oncology for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

His Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
