Obituary

Robert (Bob) E. Barbero, 89, of Land O' Lakes, Florida, returned to the loving arms of the Lord on February 21, 2026, after a long and courageous struggle with prolonged illness. Robert was the beloved husband of Jeannette (Dion) Barbero and the late Claire (Langlois) Barbero, both of New Bedford. He was also the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Reale) Barbero and lived the majority of his life in New Bedford before moving to Florida in 1999. Bob, affectionately known to many as "Mr. B," was a hard-working and tenacious entrepreneur. Throughout his life, he owned and operated several businesses, including Barbero's Restaurant of Dartmouth (formerly known as A&W Root Beer), along with other ventures across the East Coast. Mr. B was respected by many for his humility, loyalty, level-headed practical wisdom, keen discernment, and the generous spirit he carried throughout his life. He loved golf and was a former member of Allendale Country Club. Bob was a past president of the Dartmouth Lions Club and a recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest form of recognition bestowed upon individuals for outstanding humanitarian service and commitment to their community. He continued his charitable work through the Knights of Columbus during his years living in Florida. Mr. B led with resilience and unwavering faith in God. After 89 remarkable years, he leaves behind a legacy defined by loyalty, generosity, and service to others. Survivors include his wife, Jeannette (and family); a son, Robert E. Barbero of Dartmouth; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Barbero of Dartmouth; a granddaughter, Jen Barbero; and two great-granddaughters, Alexus and Aubrey. Bob was the brother of the late Raymond Barbero and Joseph Barbero. He is also survived by many cousins and extended family, with a special closeness to his cousin, John Hoyle. Details regarding a memorial service will be shared by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in dedication of Robert E.
