IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert R.
Bourgeois
September 4, 1933 – July 1, 2025
Robert R. Bourgeois, 91, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday July 1, 2025 at St Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of Orize J. (Bourque) Bourgeois for 62 years.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Aurel Bourgeois and Yvette (Pellerin) Bourgeois, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. Robert attended Assumption Prep and Assumption College where he had the honor of being named MVP of the basketball team. He served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War.
Bob moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and worked for Florida Power and Light before coming back home to New Bedford to take over Yvette's Drive-In with his brother Roger. Yvette's was a staple in the North End for 47 years, known for their onion rings, seafood, real chicken club sandwiches and soft serve ice cream.
Bob was a decades-long member of the Country Club of New Bedford where he competed in a number of fourball tournaments. He loved the game of golf almost as much as keeping an eye on the stock market, two of the many things he passed on to his grandchildren as well. Bob was an avid fan of all Boston Sports especially the New England Patriots where he was a long-time season ticket holder back when you could still sneak your kids under the turnstiles, and he did plenty of that with his son Robert! Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His deep faith in God and strong work ethic won't be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Orize; two children, Monique Stylos and her husband Alex, and Robert J. Bourgeois; six grandchildren, William, Nicholas and Jenna Stylos, Quinn Simpson, Nina and Colin Bourgeois; six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Emelia, William, Jack, Daisy and Alexander; his sister, Claudette Bourgeois; his brother, Roger Bourgeois and his wife Alice; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his older brother Raymond Bourgeois.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday July 7th at 10 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday July 6th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
