IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert E.
Crabbe, Jr.
February 19, 1942 – February 4, 2025
Robert Elson Crabbe Jr., 82 years old, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world a better place on February 4, 2025, surrounded by his adoring family.
Robert was born in Camden, NJ on February 19, 1942. He was the son of the late Robert Crabbe and Alicia (Sandecki) Crabbe. His family settled in Mattapoisett, MA, where Bob grew up exploring the wooded areas and waters of Buzzards Bay. He graduated from Fairhaven High School and attended Dean Junior College. He served our country in the Army National Guard Reserve. He was a proud member of the Local 17 Sheet Metal Workers Union, and was regarded as a master in his trade. He served on many large projects, including UMass Dartmouth and St. Luke's Hospital, and capped off his career proudly working at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, until his retirement in 2002.
He was married to the love of his life Patricia (Walsh) Crabbe for 60 years. They raised their four spirited children on Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven, where he was a beloved member of the community for the remainder of his life. He was the proud father of Robert Crabbe, Erin (Crabbe) Moreau, David Crabbe, and Thomas Crabbe. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Michael and daughter-in-law, Heidi. He was adored by his grandchildren, Hunter, Derek, Blake, Lily, Ryan, Colton, and Chloe. He also leaves behind his loving sister, Alicia Crabbe. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Crabbe.
Robert was a hard-working man, devoted to his family. He was the ultimate supporter, and never missed an event for any of his children. He made time for his many friends in dart leagues and pitch leagues and was an ace at shooting pool. He was also an avid outdoorsman, truly making the most out of living in this beautiful area. Although he loved hunting, the water was his passion. He hauled his lobster traps off of West Island, where he enjoyed clamming and quahogging, and loved to go fishing for fluke with his best friend Lenny. He would take anyone out on his boat, and he would take his catches and host his family and friends for the freshest seafood Sunday dinners around, creating lasting and loving memories for all.
Bob was genuinely one of the kindest human beings you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. A strong, generous man with no ego, only love in his heart. He was, and will forever be, a Guiding Light to his four children.
