Obituary

Robert G. "Bob" Simmons, 67, of Fairhaven passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital due to complications of an injury he sustained while working on a fishing boat in 1985.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Charles Simmons and the late Edith (Roderick) Souza, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.

For 40 years Bob was confined to a wheelchair, but lived a life that made many proud. He enjoyed his trikes and classic cars, loved to play his harmonica with local bands, and loved his sports, especially the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox. He had a profound love for music and knew a great deal about many artists, especially Elvis Presley.

Bob lived a fulfilled life and will be sadly missed by many, especially Michele Simmons.

He is survived by his son, Robert Simmons, Jr. and his wife Amanda of Acushnet; his daughter, Rachel Simmons of New Bedford; his granddaughter, Riley Simmons of Acushnet; his former wife, Michele Simmons of Fairhaven; his sister, Gina Souza of Dartmouth and her children Ava and DJ; two brothers, John Simmons and his wife Adeline of Connecticut and Michael Simmons and his partner Robert of Ocala, FL; his aunt, Nancy Silva; and several cousins and nieces.

He was predeceased by his brother, Charles "Sonny" Simmons, Jr.

Bob's family would like to extend a special thanks to his caretakers, Denise, Rosa, Holly, and Terese, as well as Southcoast VNA, for the compassionate care provided to him.

No services are scheduled at this time, but a celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date. For online guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
