Robert J. Sylvia, Sr.

Robert J. Sylvia, Sr., 92, of Fairhaven passed away on Tuesday July 14, 2026 at Alden Court Rehabilitation Center. 

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Walter and Leonora (Vieira) Sylvia. He lived and worked in New Bedford for most of his life.

During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Belle Grove, LSD-2.

He is survived by his children, William Sylvia and his wife Kathleen, Dennis Sylvia and his companion Bonnie Piva, Debra Furtado and her husband Gary, and Robert J. Sylvia, Jr. and his wife Anne; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter and Donald Sylvia.

A private family funeral service was held at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals. Burial with military honors was held at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
