Robert J. Vital, 78, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 21st, 2022. He was married to the late Lucille F. (Bergeron) Vital for 35 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Lori-Anne Plourde of New Bedford and her children Madison and Mackenzie Plourde; his son, Ryan J. Vital of Dorchester; his brother Leo Vital; his sister Patricia Chase; and many nieces and nephews.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Gilbert and Hannah (O'Donnell) Vital, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. He was a 1981 graduate of Salve Regina University. Robert was a New Bedford Police Officer for over 30 years, retiring as Deputy Chief.

Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren, and working out and socializing at the YMCA. He was an avid coin collector.

His wake will be held on Saturday, March 26th, from 2-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. A private burial will be held at a later date.
