Rosa (Schönherr) Soares, 88 of New Bedford died April 2, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born and raised in Baldern, Germany, daughter of the late Sebastian and Maria (Hafner) Schönherr), she lived in New Bedford since 1953.
She was formerly employed as a teacher's aide at T.A. Green School, Montessori School in Westport before retiring from Early Learning Child Care in New Bedford.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, knitting and painting.
Survivors include her 4 children: Kathy Arruda and her husband Joseph of Fall River, Bernadette Silva and her husband Randy, David Soares and Monica Lambalot and her husband Joseph, all of New Bedford; a brother, Hubert Schönherr, his wife Hilda and their children Jürgen and Monika, all of Germany; 2 sisters: Maria Schmidt, her husband Volker and their children Oliver, Harold and Birgit and Irmgard Hildner, her husband Klaus and their children Rainer, Matthias and Ulrike, all of Germany; 5 grandchildren: Courtney Silva and her companion Seth Desroches, Morgan Louro and her husband Seth, Justina Pereira and her husband Brian, Aubrey Lambalot and her fiancé Joshua Almeida and Adam Lambalot; 4 great-grandchildren: Kendall, Dylan, Brielyn and Caleb and her longtime friends, Louise Grace, Betty Piche and Nancy Rogers.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 8th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours Sunday, April 7th from 1-4 PM.
