Rose S. Espinola, 81, of Dartmouth died March 19, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Marcelino and Rose (Souza) Espinola, she lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth all of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Rose was formerly employed as a secretary in the Third District Court (now New Bedford District Court) and was promoted to Assistant Clerk in the Civil Division, a position she held until her retirement. Before she worked at the courthouse, she was a legal secretary to Judge August C. Taveira.
Rose was a member of the New Bedford Country Club and she was helpful to many people.
Survivors include 2 nieces, Charlene Churney of Plainfield, CT and Ermelinda Sweatt of Pomfret Center, CT; her caregivers, Luisa Aguiar and Natalia Picanco; Atty. Sheldon Friedland, her guardian, friend, confidant and advisor for over 40 years.
She was the sister of the late Edmund Espinola.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, March 22nd at 8:15 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth at 9:30 AM. Entombment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, March 21st from 4-8 PM.
