Ruth J. (Holmes) Lewis, 93, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. She was the wife of the late Frederick F. Lewis.
Born in Provincetown, daughter of the late Gabriel and Alice (Browne) Holmes, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Ruth enjoyed bowling, volunteering at the Brockton Veteran's hospital, and volunteering for St. Lawrence Church bingo. She also worked as a secretary for Gold Star Mothers and the DAV. Ruth was famous for her holiday pies she would bake. She loved her Wednesday night socials she shared with her sisters.
Survivors include her children, Sharon R. Lewis, and Michael Lewis Sr., and his wife Nancy (McLeod) Lewis; her grandchildren, Michael "Mick" Lewis Jr. and his significant other Kara, Rebecca Lagasse, Kate Joseph and her husband Donnie, Jesse Letton and his wife Colleen; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Grayson, Kaidyn, Gus, Dean, Eve, and Kali; her sisters Clara Viera and Linda Pierce; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her siblings Gabe Holmes, Jr., John Holmes, Sonny Holmes, Maryellen Ribeiro, Loretta Wnek, and Margaret Trahan.
Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
