Scott Edward Stubbs

It is with great sadness that the family of Scott Edward Stubbs, 68, born on March 2, 1958, announces his passing on July 23, 2026, at home in Walpole surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous battle for 10 years, beating the odds of stage 4 cancer, but succumbed to rare complications from his treatment. Scott will be greatly missed by all who knew him and the lives he deeply touched. He will be remembered for his incredible positive attitude, perseverance, fortitude, and faith. As his health challenges mounted, so did the support from family, friends, his church, and the larger community. He was so loved!

Scott grew up in Mattapoisett, Cuttyhunk, and Dartmouth and summered during his childhood and young adult years in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School class of 1977 where he was an avid hockey player and attended Southeastern Masachusetts University. Scott had a successful sales career with various companies and excelled in his field, being top producer numerous times. He loved woodworking, which was an expression of his creativity, and he enjoyed making soup, being near the water, spending time in New Hampshire/Maine, and most of all, time with his family and friends.

Scott was a member of Smith Mills Church where he was moderator/president. He served in this position for many years and was very involved with his church and his church family. He was very dedicated to keeping the church and its history stemming back to 1838 alive. He was the founder of Dartmouth United Outreach (DUO), an outreach mission that continues to feed thousands to this day. His goal throughout COVID and beyond was that no one goes hungry.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother Carol A. Stubbs of New Bedford, his devoted loving wife, soul mate, and best friend of 45 years, Martha Anne Conn Stubbs. His daughters (Meg Pie and Little Monkey) were his world, and his love for them was constant and unwavering. He took immense pride in the women they became and found the greatest joy simply in being their father, Megan Ashley (Stubbs) Hale (Alex Russell) and, Sarah Elizabeth (Stubbs) Amicangelo (Thomas Dante) and his grandchildren, Violet Greyson Hale, Claire Lynne Amicangelo, and baby Scott Amicangelo arriving in the fall of 2026. He is survived by his brothers Allan Stubbs (Cassandra) of Jupiter, Florida, Daniel Stubbs (Candice) of Georgetown, Delaware, and his brother-in-law Douglas Wayne Conn of Turner, Maine and Sparks, Nevada, and many amazing nieces and nephews (Wayne, Katie, Chloe and Kenley Conn), (Jeremy, Gretchen (Godchild), Bodie, Carson, and Jace Saar), (Michael, Lindsey, Aiden and Ethan Stubbs), (Eric, Stacie, Bailey and Aubrey John), (Alexis, Christopher and Corey Stubbs), (Lilly and Isabella Stubbs), and his sister-in-law Colleen Hunter Stubbs of Delaware. He also leaves behind Lynne P. Dillies who was like a sister to him as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends and his side kick dog, Scarlett. He is preceded by his father John Lyman Stubbs, his brother Timothy Stubbs, his in-laws Andrew Crispin and Rosamond Park Conn, and his sister-in-law Heidi Donkle Conn.

The family would like to thank his wonderful medical team at Dana Farber and Brigham who gave him such great care as well as many compassionate home health aides and services that came into his life.

To know him was to love him - a wonderful man and an inspiration to many.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday July 29, 2026, from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. A celebration of Scott's life will be held on Thursday July 30, 2026, at Smith Mills Church, 11 Anderson Way, North Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
