Sharyn A. Barros-Galvao, 62, of New Bedford, the founder of Mothers Against Crime and Violence "MAC-V", died Monday, March 25, 2024 unexpectedly at home. She was the wife of Antonio J. Galvao.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late John 'Madeger' Barros, Jr. and Frances (Duarte) Barros, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Sharyn was always taking care of others and was affectionately known as "Mother Goose" by many. She loved animals, helping people and watching TikTok. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family, especially celebrating holidays with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Antonio; three children, Jonathan, Monique, and Kristyna Barros; her three brothers, Deraman, Daniel "Chippy" Barros, and Kyle Sylvia; four sisters, Anita M. Barros, Sherry L. Barros (who was her twin), and Dianna and Donna Sylvia; six grandchildren, Manny, Shania (whom Sharyn raised), Ny'asia, Jerome, Zenayah, and Saige; her great-granddaughter, Aria; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Michael Barros; and two brothers, John 'BooBoo' Barros and Jayl Sylvia.
Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 9-11 AM, prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
