Shirley M. (Lackey) Pittsley, 80, of New Bedford died Friday June 28, 2019 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Harold B. Pittsley.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William Lackey and Edith (Alberta) Dacko, step-daughter of the late Michael Dacko, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was formerly employed as a substitute teacher with the New Bedford School System for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, painting, watching painting shows and looking at the clouds.
She enjoyed being a foster grandparent at Swift School.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Judith Tavares, Elizabeth Bernier and her husband Rick, Robin Pittsley Benton and Carol Ann Arruda and her husband Steven, all of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, Rufus Pittsley of Florida; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Pittsley and his fiancée Tiffany Lopes, Bradford Bernier, Jennifer Bernier, David Tavares, Andrew Tavares and his wife Lyndie, Jessica Tavares, Andrea Tavares, Tara Santos, Sabrina Benton and Tylor Arruda; 16 great-grandchildren, Noah Pittsley, Ava Pittsley, Harper Pittsley, Kayla Bernier, Brendyn Bernier, Destinie Monteiro, Isaac Monteiro, Jayden Tavares, Darren Tavares, Matthew Tavares, Skielah Tavares, Lynn Tavares, Cheyann Tavares, Crystal Tavares, Steven Tavares and Krystian Tavares; her cousin, Mary-Will Jolly; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late William Lackey and Ronald Lackey.

Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, July 2nd from 4-8 PM.
