Shirley (Grew) Rose, of Assonet, MA passed away at the age of 81 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William Rose.

Shirley was born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late James and Esther (Grundy) Grew.  She was raised in both New Bedford and South Dartmouth and lived in Assonet for the last 20 years.

She loved knitting, reading and spending time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

After obtaining a degree in education from New England College, she taught 5th grade elementary for six years in New Bedford.  She stepped away from teaching to raise two beautiful children, then returned to the Dartmouth Middle School as a substitute teacher for five years.  She finished her working career as a dedicated employee of BJ's for nearly fifteen years.

Shirley is survived by her son, Jeffrey Rose; her daughter, Deborah Klein; a grandson, Zachary Klein; and her brother David Grew.

A Celebration of her Life will take place on Friday, September 6th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Her visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM.
