Stephen J. O'Brien, 84, of New Bedford died Sunday June 27, 2010 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Patrick J. and Alice (Birtwistle) O'Brien, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. He resided at Hathaway Manor for the past 19 years where he formed many friendships.

He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Eleanor R. Thomas, Alice T. Babineau, and Pauline Dearing.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday morning at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
