Timothy J. Finnerty, 52, of Fairhaven, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Born in Stoughton, he was the beloved son of Stephen and Diane (Deschamps) Finnerty and spent most of his life in New Bedford, where he built deep roots, lasting friendships, and a life centered on love, faith, and service.
Tim was a man of extraordinary humility and a heart that knew no limits when it came to loving others. He had a quiet strength about him never seeking recognition yet leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. Tim would quite literally give you the shirt off his back, always putting others before himself. His generosity was not just in what he gave, but in how he lived with compassion, kindness, and unwavering loyalty.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted Catholic, Tim truly believed his purpose was to serve others and reflect the love of Jesus in everything he did. He lived his faith authentically through his actions, his words, and the way he showed up for people in their time of need. Being confirmed at St. Patrick's Church in Wareham in 2024 was a deeply meaningful moment for him, a reflection of his continued spiritual growth and commitment to his faith.
Tim had a curious mind and a deep appreciation for history. He was an avid reader and a true history buff, always eager to learn, reflect, and share stories from the past. Whether diving into books or conversations, he found joy in understanding the world and the people who came before us.
In his earlier years, Tim found joy in cycling, embracing both the freedom and discipline it brought. He was also a proud supporter of his Irish heritage, with a lifelong passion for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Whether cheering on his team or spending time with those he loved, Tim found happiness in life's simple, meaningful moments.
Above all, Tim cherished his family. He was a loving son, a devoted brother, and a proud uncle who held a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of peace to those closest to him.
Tim's life was a reflection of selfless love, quiet faith, and genuine goodness. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, the love he gave so freely, and the example he set for all who knew him, in hope that others would follow.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23
He leaves behind his loving parents, Stephen and Diane Finnerty of Fairhaven; his sisters, Jill (Taylor) Rivas of Fairhaven, and Bridget Finnerty-Thibeault and her husband Derek of New Bedford; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Cody Finnerty, Aryanna White, Glenn R. Catt III, Lacey Thibeault, and Nora Thibeault. Along with many close relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Sister Rose's House (Catholic Charities) 71 Division Street New Bedford, MA.
