Vasco D. Nicolau, 87, of New Bedford died Monday, October 7, 2019 at CareOne in New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Maria E. (Pinheiro) Nicolau.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, son of the late Luis and Natalia (Almeida) Nicolau, he moved to New Bedford in 1965.

Vasco was formerly employed by Colombia Electronics in New Bedford and later worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing for 14 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed painting, restoring old cars, fishing, and living life.

Survivors include his daughter, Natalia Barroso; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and many cousins and other extended family members.

He was predeceased by his step-daughter, Ema M. Pinheiro and his brother, Mario Nicolau.

His visitation will be held Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 10-11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
