Virginia (Monteiro) Chantre, 96, of New Bedford died April 28, 2008 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Frank Chantre.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Francisco and Domingas (DeBarros) Monteiro-Fernandes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She enjoyed sewing and playing the piano.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Chantre of New Bedford; a daughter, Elaine Moore of Orange County, CA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; several cousins.
She was the step-daughter of the late Alfred Fernandes.
Her Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 10 AM in St. John's Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
