Obituary

William F. Peters, 93, of Acushnet died August 6, 2015 at Our Lady's Haven after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Lopes) Peters.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antone and Mary J. (Burns) Peters, he lived in New Bedford most of his life before moving to Acushnet.
Mr. Peters was formerly employed by Newbury TV for 30 years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received during the Battle for St-Lo. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.
Mr. Peters enjoyed building model ships and HO trains.
During the Great Depression, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Colorado and had a love of the Wild West. He was pleased to have met John Wayne in Colorado.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Nancy Vieira and her companion Charlie DelSordo of New Bedford and Jane Miller and her partner Cheryl Burtch of Acushnet; 2 grandchildren, Wendy Nault and her husband Darren and Tracy Atwood and her husband Chuck; 6 great-grandchildren, Meghan Nault, Nicole Nault, Ashley Atwood, Abigail Atwood, Tyler Atwood and Allyson Atwood.
Private arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
