Obituary

William  J. Rolli, 80, passed away on March 12, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a period of declining illness.

Born in New Bedford on Jan. 17, 1944, Bill was the son of Aldo and Aurora (Giusti) Rolli.  He was a 1962 graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.

During his military service in the Army, Bill was stationed in Korea.  For several years, he was employed by Montaup Electric as a stationary fireman and taught steam engineering at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.  Before he retired, Bill was employed by the City of New Bedford as a housing inspector.

Bill had a gregarious personality and was a daily fixture in the coffee shop at Market Basket in New Bedford where he led many lively conversations. He enjoyed playing cards at the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Fairhaven.

Bill lived for most of his life in the same home in New Bedford where he grew up.  In later years, he enjoyed spending time at his vacation home in Melbourne, Florida.

Bill is survived by his brother, John Rolli, and his wife, Anna, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and his nephews Noah and Adam Rolli.  He was predeceased by his long-time companion of 30 years, Diane Levalley of New Bedford.

Bill enjoyed many family gatherings with his cousins and their children and grandchildren.  He was a generous man, always ready to donate to a cause and help those in need.  He will be missed by his family members who loved him and by the many friends he made over the years.

Bill's ashes will be spread during a private memorial service followed by a celebration of life at a date to be announced. Donations in Bill's memory can be made to Coastline Elderly Services at 863 Belleville Ave.
New Bedford, MA 02745.
