William J. Smith, 78, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025. He was the husband of the late Jeannette (Cyr) Smith.

Born in Boston, son of the late Henry and Katherine (Condon) Smith, he lived on the Cape and in New Bedford most of his life.

Bill enjoyed following politics and being involved with political fundraisers. He also enjoyed watching any Boston sports teams.

Bill worked for Scotty's Limo Service and was a Building Inspector for the City of New Bedford for many years.

Survivors include his daughter, Corene Smith and her partner Nicole Cardoso of New Bedford; his brother, Henry "Buddy" Smith and his wife Carla; his sister, Paula Horton; his grandchildren, Chad Maciel and his wife Felicia, and Kaitlin Maciel and her fiancé Albert Mandeville; his great grandsons, Leaon Selha and Jaden Ryan Maciel; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill's family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks for the compassionate care given to him over the years.

His visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 13th from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
